Fulfilled by TikTok (FBT) is TikTok Shop's own warehousing: you send stock in, and TikTok stores it, packs it and ships the TikTok Shop orders it holds stock for. A 3PL holds your stock and ships every channel from it. Most brands that sell on more than TikTok Shop end up running both: a narrow slice of quick-moving SKUs in FBT for the delivery tag, and the rest of the catalog at the 3PL, which also builds the FBT inbound shipments from the same pool.

Here's what each one controls, what TikTok's own pages say about storage, fees and inbound rules, how to tell which SKUs belong in FBT, and how a 3PL keeps FBT stocked without splitting your inventory into two guesses.

What Fulfilled by TikTok does, and what a 3PL does

TikTok Shop's US logistics overview, checked November 2026, lists three ways to ship. With Seller Shipping and TikTok Shipping, you ship from your own warehouse or a third-party one, and the difference is whose labels and carriers you use. With FBT, you send inventory to warehouses TikTok Shop operates, and TikTok handles storage, packing and delivery. A 3PL sits in the first two options: it's the third-party warehouse that picks, packs and hands the parcel to a carrier for you.

The FBT page, checked November 2026, sets out what you get in exchange for sending stock in. Eligible products carry a "Free 3-Day Delivery" tag on TikTok Shop, each inbound shipment gets 60 days of free storage, and logistics problems on FBT orders, like a late dispatch or a lost parcel, are kept out of your seller performance metrics. TikTok's Fulfillment Policy, checked the same month, confirms that FBT orders are exempt from the late dispatch, valid tracking and on-time delivery calculations and from the seller packaging rules. Those are real advantages, and they're the reason a brand puts any stock in FBT at all.

What you give up is reach and control. Units in an FBT warehouse can only fill TikTok Shop orders, so they can't ship a Shopify order, an Amazon order or a wholesale carton. The box, the insert and the packing rule are TikTok's. A 3PL holding the same units can ship them to any channel, pack them in your branded mailer with your thank-you card, and kit them into bundles. The full rules for shipping TikTok Shop orders yourself, through a 3PL, are in our guide to TikTok Shop fulfillment requirements.

What FBT costs, and why the box size matters

FBT charges a fulfillment fee per unit that covers pick, pack, packaging and last-mile shipping, per the FBT rate card, checked November 2026. The fee is set by chargeable weight. A unit at or under 2 lb and 332 cubic inches is charged on its actual weight, and anything bigger is charged on the greater of actual weight and dimensional weight, which is length times width times height in inches divided by 166. A light product in a big box can cost more than its weight suggests, so measure the packed unit before you assume it's cheap to send in.

Storage is free for the first 60 days of each inbound shipment, then charged on cubic feet, worked out daily on every unit in the building, damaged ones included. The rate card has discounted tiers for stock stored up to 270 days, and longer than that costs more. That shape rewards stock that sells within a couple of months and punishes stock that sits. If a SKU won't sell through its FBT units in about 60 days, it's paying a fee to wait in a building that can only sell it on one channel.

Getting stock back out of FBT has its own fees. The same page lists exit inventory returned by FBT freight at $0.39 per lb, with no shipping fee if you book your own carrier to collect it, and a fee for a missed pickup appointment. Inbound has its own charges: a routing non-compliance fee that starts at $0.50 per unit when a direct shipment arrives with the wrong quantity, at the wrong building or split up, and an optional hub placement fee if you send it to a hub. TikTok's East hub is in Middlesex, New Jersey. Put all of that next to how 3PL storage fees work and compare on your own cube.

Which SKUs belong in FBT, and which stay at the 3PL

Think of FBT as a forward shelf for TikTok Shop. A SKU earns a place there when it sells steadily on TikTok, ships alone in a small box, and sells through its FBT units well inside the free storage window. Everything else stays where all your channels can reach it.

  • It sells on TikTok Shop most weeks, including the quiet ones between creator posts. A one-off spike is better served from the pool than from a forecast you sent to TikTok a month earlier.
  • It ships as a single unit in a small, light box. Multi-unit baskets, bulky items and anything charged on dimensional weight are worth pricing both ways before you move them.
  • You can sell the FBT units within about 60 days. Count the weeks of TikTok sales the inbound covers, and send less if it's more than eight.
  • It doesn't need your packaging to arrive right. If the unboxing, the insert or a gift note is part of the product, keep it at the 3PL.
  • It isn't part of a bundle or a kit you build to order. Those stay with whoever builds them to order.
  • It has one linear barcode that scans without opening the package, matched to the listing SKU in the FBT portal.
  • It's a SKU you can restock without a long wait. A SKU you're about to run short on belongs in the pool, where the last units can go to whichever channel sells them.

Most catalogs end up with a short FBT list: a handful of hero SKUs, the ones a creator video sells by the hundred. Revisit it every month with the sell-through numbers, and take a SKU out when its FBT units start sitting.

How TikTok Shop routes orders when you run both

You can run FBT and your own warehouse at the same time. TikTok's logistics overview says so, and adds a rule that shapes the whole plan: when a SKU has stock in both places, FBT inventory is used first. In practice, your 3PL ships a TikTok Shop order for that SKU only once FBT has run out of it, or for SKUs you never sent to FBT. The US warehouse management page, checked November 2026, says TikTok Shop assigns each order to a warehouse based on proximity and inventory, and asks you to keep the SKU-to-warehouse mapping complete for anything that can ship from more than one.

That's useful, because it means the 3PL is your backup when FBT sells out on a Saturday. Map every FBT SKU to the 3PL warehouse as well, keep the 3PL stock of that SKU live on TikTok Shop, and an order that would have been a stockout cancellation ships from the pool instead. Those backup orders are regular orders, so the 2 business day dispatch and 6 business day delivery windows in the Fulfillment Policy apply to them. A 3PL with a same-day cutoff and a daily carrier pickup clears them without effort.

Keep an eye on what the pool shows TikTok, though. If your other channels draw from the same count, your Shopify store needs a small buffer on the SKUs that TikTok is pulling from the 3PL, and our guide to one inventory pool for every channel works through the buffers.

How a 3PL replenishes FBT from your stock

The inbound request rules, checked November 2026, are strict about what arrives and when. Here's how we'd run a replenishment cycle from the pool.

  1. Watch FBT days of cover by SKU each week. Assume a SKU sells 40 units a week on TikTok and an inbound takes two weeks from request to shelf: you reorder when FBT holds about two weeks of stock, and you send about six weeks' worth so it sells inside the free window.
  2. Create the inbound request in the FBT portal with at least 10 units of each product, and only products whose barcode is matched one to one to the listing SKU. The quantities you enter have to match what ships, by SKU and by carton.
  3. Send the request to your 3PL with the carton and pallet labels downloaded from the FBT system. TikTok won't accept carton labels printed anywhere else.
  4. The 3PL pulls the units from the pool, which takes them out of what your other channels can sell straight away, and checks that each unit has one linear barcode and nothing else scannable on the outside.
  5. Pack single-SKU cartons where you can. A carton's longest side can't pass 66 cm and it can't weigh more than 23 kg, and a mixed carton takes no more than 5 products, physically separated.
  6. Put two carton labels on adjacent sides of every carton. On freight, build pallets no bigger than 48 by 40 by 72 inches and no heavier than 1,500 lb, with four pallet labels, one per side, and no double stacking.
  7. Book the freight appointment at least 4 business days ahead, within a week of the arrival date you entered, and update the date if it moves. Small parcel requests carry up to 100 cartons and need no appointment.
  8. Enter the tracking numbers as soon as you have them, then watch the request until FBT receives it. A request closes on its own if nothing arrives within 75 days.

It's the same rhythm as an Amazon FBA replenishment with different labels. If you also send stock to Amazon, the 3PL vs Amazon FBA guide covers the other side of the same plan.

How we run TikTok Shop and FBT at YNK

TikTok Shop connects natively to ShipStation, the WMS the whole building runs on, so TikTok Shop orders that land with us ship from Elmwood Park on the same 12pm ET cutoff as every other channel, and tracking posts back to TikTok Shop. Orders in by noon Eastern ship the same business day. Anything later ships within one business day, or two to three in peak. Several of the brands here sell on TikTok Shop, and we take care of those orders end to end, including the backup orders TikTok routes to us when FBT runs out.

If you hold stock in Fulfilled by TikTok, we replenish it from the same inventory pool your Shopify and Amazon orders draw on. You create the inbound request, and we pull the units, label and build the cartons to TikTok's rules, and book the pickup. Relabeling or other prep for an inbound is special-project labor at an estimated $35 per hour, only when you ask. Every unit we pick is scanned against the order first, which is how pick and pack error stays under 0.3% across more than 1.2 million orders a year.

The rates are the same whichever channel the order comes from: an estimated $3.00 per order for handling, $3.00 per returned parcel and $0.65 per cubic foot per month for storage, billed on the space you use. Postage is billed semi-monthly per shipment, at extremely competitive carrier rates, and there are no seasonal or peak surcharges on handling or storage. When a creator video lands, we've seen the volume before: Nominal's last-minute sale brought in more than 10,000 orders in one weekend, and every one shipped within SLA. The setup is on our TikTok Shop fulfillment page, and the building is in New Jersey, about 15 miles from Manhattan.

To get both sides priced, send us the 3PL intake. It takes about ten minutes and asks where you sell, your SKU list and your last three months of shipments, so tell us which SKUs you keep in FBT. Someone from the team replies within one business day, the proposal follows within five, and most brands are live in under two weeks.

Questions sellers ask about FBT and a 3PL

Can I use Fulfilled by TikTok and a 3PL at the same time?

Yes, and TikTok Shop's logistics overview says you can fulfill from FBT and your own warehouse at once, and that FBT stock is used first when a SKU is in both. Map each FBT SKU to the 3PL too, so orders keep shipping when FBT sells out.

Is FBT cheaper than a 3PL?

It depends on the SKU and the order. FBT charges per unit by chargeable weight, with 60 days of free storage per inbound, so small single units that sell quickly can come out ahead. Multi-unit orders, bulky items and slow stock usually cost less from a 3PL. Price your own SKUs both ways.

Do FBT orders count toward my late dispatch rate?

No, TikTok Shop's Fulfillment Policy, checked November 2026, leaves FBT orders out of late dispatch, valid tracking and on-time delivery. Orders your 3PL ships do count, so its cutoff and daily carrier pickup carry those scores.

How do I get my inventory back out of FBT?

Raise an exit inventory request in the FBT portal. The rate card lists return by FBT freight at $0.39 per lb, or no shipping fee if your own carrier collects it, so send the units straight to your 3PL and they go back into the pool.
