Beverage fails in transit, not on the shelf. During onboarding you tell us how each product travels, upright or flat, how many to a case, what goes between bottles, and those rules go into the WMS against the SKU. The packer follows the rule on every order.
Cans and glass are packed in cartons sized to the case rather than the smallest one that closes, with cushioning by your rule. Fragile is flagged at the SKU, so the picker and the packer both see it.
